The ITI stands for Industrial Training Institute.
You may know it better by its alias, “ITI” Both technical and engineering education are offered in this 2 year program.
This course is backed by the Directorate General of Employment of Training (DGET) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment Union.
The course is offered in a wide range of skilled trades, including electrical, mechanical, computer hardware, refrigeration and air conditioning, carpentry, plumbing, welding, fitter, and many more.

ITI’s (Industrial Training Institute) provide students with a variety of vocational training options across the country of India by both public and private institutions. After receiving National Trade Certificate (NTC), candidates are required to appear for the All India Trade Test (AITT).
ITI Course Duration
How long does an ITI program last?
One of the most important things that would-be ITI students need to know is how long the program lasts.
- ITI program might last for 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, a year and a half (1.5), or 2 years. That is up to the trades you want to enroll in.
ITI Entrance Qualification
- Class 10 is required with most trades, but class 8 is required for some non-engineering curriculum. [The ITI programme is open to high school (12th Pass out) grads as well.]
- There needs to be a minimum age of at least 14 years old. The upper age limit shouldn’t be more than 40.
- Students must score well on entrance tests to get admission to govt institutes.
ITI Course types
- Engineering Trade Discipline – Technical ITI programs are sometimes known as engineering ITI programs. You will be expected to study mathematical and physics concepts as part of these trainings. It is expected that this program will last for a minimum of 2 years.
- Non-engineering Trade – These are a type of general science. The majority of these trade will last between 6 months and one calendar year.
